THE DOCUMENTS FOLDERThe DOCUMENTS folder that is placed on the desktop, it is an example of folder.
The folders are simple containers (initially empty) that can contain files and other folders.
CREATING A FOLDERBy the following instructions, a new folder will be created inside the Documents folder.
1a - Access the “Documents” folder by a double click on the “Documents” icon on the Desktop. Or,
1b - click the “Start” button and click on the “Documents” entry.
2 - Click with the right key on an empty point of the window
3 - from the context menu, move the pointer on “New”
CREATING A FILEAll the documents, drawings, calculations, files that you create with the computer; they can be saved on the disk drives.
All these creations generically are called FILES.
Not only your creations but all data contained in the disk drives (from the operating system to the programs) are in the form of files.
In order to create a file you can:
create it after having run a program (see Step 3.3),
or you can directly create one void in a folder in the following way. From your just created folder “My exercises”,
access the folder “My exercises” by a double click on it.
1 - Click with the right key on an empty point of the window
2 - from the context menu, set the pointer on “New”.
A new icon will appear with the name “New Text Document”.
Now you can open the file created by a double-click and start writing on it.
RENAMING FILES AND FORLDERSIn order to rename files or folders, you can use (as for almost all the commands) different methods. First method:
1 - click with the right key of the mouse on the file or folder that you want to rename (for example “My first file”)
2 - from the context menu click on “Rename”.
Second method (even simpler!):
1 - click on the file or folder that you want to rename
2 - wait for a second (if you don't wait, the file or folder will open)
3 - click on the filename or folder
4 - type by the keyboard the new filename (for instance: yourdiary)
5 - click on an empty point of the window, or press the ENTER key.
