Step 4.2 - Moving among the cells and saving the data

THE ACTIVE CELL

When one opens a new worksheet,
the first active cell is the cell A1.
Or, the active cell is the cell that will receive the data typed by keyboard.

MOVING AMONG THE CELLS

Press the “right arrow key” by keyboard.
The active cell is the B1 and you can note this:
1 - by the thickest edges in the cell
2 - by the box name (on the left of the formula bar is written B1)
3 - by the background coloured in different way than the column B and the row 1.
Try to press on the arrow keys to make active other cells of the sheet now,
... and look as it changes the content of the box, name and the references of row and column.

You can activate a cell, also by clicking directly on it with the mouse.

WRITING AND SAVING THE DATA

Select (make it active) now, the cell A1,
and start typing
I am writing in a cell
(don't worry if the text trespasses in the following cell).

Now (unlike word) you have to confirm the entered data, and you can do it in different ways:
1a - press the Enter key by keyboard or
1b - press one of the arrow keys or
1c - click on another cell or
1d - click on the check mark in the formula bar.

DELETING THE DATA

To delete the content of a cell,
1 - select the cell
2a - press the “key Delete” or
2b - press the “key backspace” and subsequently the key Enter or
2c - type immediately the text that must be replaced and subsequently press the key Enter.

MODIFYING AND ADDING DATA

Sometimes one doesn't want to delete the whole content of a cell, but one wants to add or modify part of it.
To modify the content of a cell one has to set modifying method in the following ways:
1a - double click on the cell or
1b - select the cell and press the key F2 by keyboard or
1c - click on the box of the formula bar.
Now you have set the modify method, and this you can note it by the bar (down). To modify its content, you can use the same system that you use for modifying a word text (see Step 3.2).

SEEING THE WHOLE SHEET!

When you open a worksheet, you don't see the whole sheet but a small part of a sheet made with 16384 columns and 1048576 rows.
To see the end of the sheet,
1 - press and keep pressed the “key CTRL”
2 - press the “arrow down key”.
In this way (if all the underlying cells to the active cell are empty) the cell of the last row is activated (of the column of the active cell).
Keeping pressed the “key CTRL”,
press the “right arrow key”.
In this way one activates the cell related to the last row of the last column.

To bring in fast way the active cell on A1 back,
1 - press and keep pressed the “key CTRL”
2 - press the “key HOME”.
